Summer birthday parties hit different.

There’s space to run. There’s daylight to spare. There’s a dog eating cupcake crumbs off the patio. And if you’re booking entertainment, now is the time. Because once the warm weekends start to stack up, the good dates disappear.

Here’s what to know if you’re thinking about bringing a little magic to your summer party.

1. Outdoor shows are awesome (with a little planning)

Backyards are great for magic shows. The kids have room to sit, jump, shout, and spin around. But you’ll want to think through a few basics:

  • Shade is your best friend

  • Grass is fine, but pavement or a deck is even better

  • Wind is real, and it loves stealing playing cards and silk scarves

Plan for a little comfort, and the experience will be way better. I’ve performed on patios, porches, in garages, under tents, even between two parked minivans. It all works. Just give me a space and I’ll make it feel like a stage.

2. Prime party times fill up fast for a Backyard Birthday Party in Chicago

Saturday at 2 PM? Everyone wants it. Sunday late morning? Probably gone by next week. If you’ve got a specific time or a “must have” date, don’t wait. Once it's booked, it's booked. I don’t clone well.

Not sure of your full party plan yet? You can always ask me what's open and build around it.

3. Summer birthdays = easier photos, bigger reactions

Outdoor shows mean good lighting, loud laughs, and less stress about kids bumping into lamps. There’s room for everyone!

And if it rains? We adapt. We move. Have a back up plan

4. Summer kids have been to a lot of parties. Yours should stand out.

By July, most kids have seen a bounce house. They’ve done the slip-n-slide. They’ve eaten seven kinds of cake.

So the real magic isn’t in the stuff. It’s in the experience. It’s the moment your child helps with a trick, floats in the air, or makes something vanish right in front of their friends.

That’s what they remember. That’s what gets talked about the next day at camp.
