Nobody Remembers the Napkins

Nobody remembers the napkins.
Nobody grows up saying:
“You know what made my seventh birthday unforgettable? The excellent table runners.”
Kids remember feelings.
They remember:
• laughing uncontrollably
• getting picked to help
• hearing adults laugh too
• feeling celebrated
• being part of something exciting
That’s what actually sticks.
Parents are under a lot of pressure now to create “perfect” birthday parties.
Social media has turned ordinary celebrations into full-scale event productions.
And honestly?
I think it sometimes steals attention away from the thing that matters most:
the experience itself.
The magic of a birthday party is not the balloon arch.
It’s the moment a shy child suddenly raises their hand to volunteer.
It’s the birthday kid laughing so hard they can barely stand up.
It’s grandparents smiling from the back row while the whole room reacts together.
Those moments become memories.
Not the custom cupcake toppers.
As somebody who performs for families constantly, I can tell you this:
the parties kids remember most are almost never the fanciest ones.
They’re the ones that felt joyful.
That’s the real goal.
