Magic Makers Comes to Elgin: A Family Comedy Magic Show Built from Scratch

What happens when a magician stops buying tricks and starts building them?

Magic Makers: Make It Yourself! is an interactive family comedy magic show about invention, curiosity, and the sort of person who looks at an ordinary object and immediately wonders, “Could that do something impossible?”

On Sunday, November 15, Magic Makers comes to Side Street Studio Arts in downtown Elgin for an afternoon built for children and grown-ups to enjoy together.

A family show where the audience helps make the magic

This is not a “sit quietly while the magician demonstrates how clever he is” sort of show.

Children become part of the action. They help test inventions, solve magical problems, and rescue experiments that have taken a sharp turn toward silliness. Nobody is dragged onstage or embarrassed. Shy children can participate from their seats, while enthusiastic volunteers get plenty of chances to jump into the story.

The grown-ups get an actual comedy show too. That matters. A family outing is much better when the adults are laughing with the children instead of checking the time and quietly planning their escape.

Magic built from ordinary stuff

Magic Makers grew from the same impulse behind cardboard forts, basement workshops, complicated LEGO contraptions, and taking something apart because you absolutely need to know what is inside.

The show uses tools, art supplies, boxes, paint, tape, and a magician’s questionable confidence to turn familiar materials into impossible surprises.

Some inventions work beautifully. Some work eventually. Some provide valuable educational opportunities about what not to do next time.

That is where much of the fun lives.

Who will enjoy Magic Makers?

The show is designed for children ages 5 and up and their grown-ups. It is a particularly good fit for curious kids who enjoy building, drawing, making, experimenting, or asking “why?” until every adult in the room has reconsidered several life choices.

No live animals. No fire. No frightening material. Just playful, interactive magic, comedy, and a room full of people making something wonderful together.
